Institutional and European Affairs Expert

Gianfranco Dell’Alba is a senior European affairs strategist with more than four decades of experience at the intersection of European institutions, international policy and business representation. Based in Brussels, he has held leading roles across the European Parliament, the Italian government, major industry associations and international organizations, building a distinguished career focused on European governance, public affairs and institutional relations.

Gianfranco currently serves as Special Adviser for European Affairs at ANIA, the Italian Insurers’ Association, where he advises on EU policy and regulatory developments impacting the insurance sector. Prior to this, he was Counsel at Grimaldi Studio Legale in Brussels and Director of Confindustria’s Delegation to the European Union, representing the interests of Italian industry at the European level.

Earlier in his career, Gianfranco served as Head of Cabinet to the Italian Minister for European Affairs and spent ten years as a Member of the European Parliament. During his parliamentary mandate, he sat on several key committees, including Budget, Budgetary Control, Foreign Affairs, Development and Constitutional Affairs, and was a member of the Conference of Presidents.

His international experience also includes roles at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Geneva and the European Economic and Social Council (EESC), where he served as a member for a decade.

Alongside his institutional and advisory work, Gianfranco has contributed to several influential international organizations, including the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) and the International Crisis Group (ICG).

He holds a degree in Political Science from Sapienza University of Rome, graduating magna cum laude, and a diploma from the Institut européen des Hautes Études Internationales in Nice.

Fluent in Italian, French, English and Spanish, Gianfranco brings deep institutional knowledge, strategic insight and an extensive European network to complex policy and stakeholder environments.
