Dr. Domitilla Sagramoso is a Senior Lecturer in Conflict and Security at the Department of War Studies, King’s College London.

Originally from Argentina, she obtained an MA in War Studies (KCL) in 1992 and a PhD at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London in 2000.

She is an expert on Russia’s foreign and security policy in the post-Soviet space. Her publication Russian Imperialism Revisited: From Disengagement to Hegemony, (Routledge, 2020), examines Russia’s policies towards the former USSR states since 1991, within the framework of “Hegemony” and “Neo-Empire” theories of international relations. She is currently working on a publication on Russian-Ukrainian negotiations (2014-2022), with a specific focus on negotiation techniques and the use of force. She is also developing a cooperative project with the Kyiv School of Economics (Ukraine) on the “military lessons learnt” from the current war.

She has also developed two research projects in Latin America, including in Colombia she has examined the impact of post-conflict reconstruction projects carried out by World Bank, the European Union and USAID in a series of regions severely affected by violence (Magdalena Medio, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and La Macarena).

She is also an expert on Islamist jihadism in the Russian North Caucasus and has published extensively on these topics in various academic journals (Europe-Asia Studies, International Affairs, Perspectives on Terrorism, New Perspectives).

She joined the Department of War Studies King’s College London in 2005, having previously been the Principal Researcher at the Caucasus Policy Institute, at King’s College London.

She is a regular commentator on current affairs with several media outlets (BBC, Al Jazeera, Deutsche Welle, LBC and Times Radio).
